La Fhéile Padraig / St. Patricks Day

As has been tradition over the last number of years Pearse Óg have been involved with the Armagh St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This year we want to make it an even bigger event for our Club and Community. We would like to have as many members of all our teams from U6’s to Senior Ladies and Men’s teams, as well as other Members & Parents, to take part in the parade and make Green and Gold – Glas agus Ór - a major focal point on the parade. All Pearse Óg members and friends who want to support the Club by marching in the parade are requested to meet at the Palace Stables at 12.00 pm on Monday 17th March. Don’t forget to wear your Green and Gold Club colours to show your pride in Pearse Óg.

At the end of the parade we will be running a Shuttle Bus to the Social Club where entertainment and refreshments including Irish Stew which will be served by members of St.Brigid’s Camogie Club. We want you to support the local community by making the Pearse Óg Social Club the focal point for your afternoon’s entertainment and we intend to provide a FREE disco and FREE refreshments & snacks for the children. We will also have Traditional Irish & contemporary music for you to enjoy from 5 pm to 7.30 pm in the Bar whilst you drown the Shamrock in traditional Pearse Óg fashion with a great pint of stout or whatever takes your fancy.

U-14 News

Saturday 8th March saw our U-14 season commence formally with the visit of Crossmaglen to Pearse Óg Park in Feíle first round.
With a strong gale in their face Ógs made a slow start and Cross took full advantage to register some fine scores. Our young men regrouped at half time and showed throughout the second half they were more than a match for their opponents. The defense managed to breakdown the Crossmaglen attack and with some excellent attacking play took the game to the visitors and registered some fine scores of their own.
They played with great pride to the final whistle but unfortunately Cross ran out eventual winners. Good luck to them in the competition.
With the second half performance as motivation this determined young team will grow and develop as the weeks progress, good luck for the 2014 season.
Training continues on Wednesday night 6-7pm in Sherries field. Please bring water and gum shield.
Thursday night challenge game away to Moy, team to meet at social club at 5.45, full details available on Wednesday.

If you are interested in coaching or have coached in the past and would like to get back involved in 2014 please get in touch with Tony Davidson Youth officer 07780954480. All support at any age group would be greatly appreciated.

Pearse Óg “Fun 5’s” program for U-8 & U-10s development will FINISH this Thursday 13th March.

U-8s 6pm-7pm and U-10s 7pm-8pm. We would request that all participants along with a parent/guardian arrive 15 minutes early to complete a registration form EACH NIGHT and provide relevant contact details. We primarily aim to host the event for the benefit of children hoping/playing for Pearse Óg but as it's an event aimed at Fun and Participation all are welcome within the relevant age groups.

Pearse Óg will provide fully qualified and GAA vetted friendly coaches at the event so rest assured your child will be in good hands.

"Fun 5's" has been a tremendous success in introducing the kids to Gaelic Football. No previous knowledge of the game is necessary as coaching will be given to all and they will enjoy playing Gaelic for an hour. Parents are very welcome to stay and watch but please be aware that it is not a competitive environment - the emphasis will be on Fun and Participation and we hope you will encourage the children in a positive manner.

We would like to thank you for sending your child to this event and would advise you that this is being provided FREE of charge by Pearse Óg. Lotto tickets will be on sale at the venue and we would hope that you would purchase a ticket each week (£1) to help us to continue to provide this service to your kids. If you would like to help out in any way - contact Tony 07780954480 or BJ 07562009907 for more information.

Academy sessions continue this Wednesday U-12/U-14 @ 6pm-7pm and Thursday for U-16/U-19 @ 9pm-10pm Cathedral Road Complex.

Pearse Óg Academy was established to help children improve their skills, fitness and general wellbeing whilst socialising with their team mates and some new recruitments to the club. Initially the idea came about because the club saw that when the season finished in September, for most players they wouldn’t be playing Gaelic Sport again until the new season re-commenced in 2014 (probably early March) As this is a voluntary event it placed more emphasis on the kid wanting to attend as a choice of recreation rather than having to attend during the season for team selection.

It was also used as a mechanism for providing high level coaching in a Fun, safe and new format and to attract new coaches to the club.

Gerard Davidson, Chairman of Pearse Ógs, stated that, ‘Clubs in the cities are under increasing pressure to ensure that they retain their membership and have a positive community identity. There is so much competition from other sports, clubs and associations that local clubs must do all in their power to ensure that we give our children a top class experience. We now need to ensure that we have an all year offering which will allow the children to remain with us whilst also trying to attract new members from the greater Armagh community. With this in mind the Academy has really helped and made a great start’.

The Academy is managed by the various volunteers from Pearse Óg’s from the women’s committee who provide much needed winter refreshments to the players and coaches who display great skill and enthusiasm.

Pearse Ógs Junior team are having a raffle for two Garth Brooks tickets. Raffle tickets cost £5 and the winner will be announced in the social club at 9pm on Saturday 15th March.
