This Saturday once again sees our Club host the annual Donal Powell Blitz in Pearse Óg Park. We have 29 teams in attendance from Counties Armagh, Tyrone, Donegal, Dublin, Derry and Antrim this is testimony to both the hard work put in by various underage coaches and committee and especially to the affection in which Donal himself was held. He was indeed an extremely popular young man within the local community. Son of the late Tommy, himself a dedicated Pearse Óg Gael, and Phil, who has been a loyal Ógs woman for too long a time to mention. With his uncle Eamon being a club senior player and Chairman, he was weened on Pearse Óg from a young age.

Donal proved to be an exceptionally gifted footballer and he excelled in the Ógs underage teams. He was a star full forward on Juvenile, Minor, were he won three-in-a-row County medals and u21 County Championship winning teams. He was the main scoring threat in many B Championship wins and was on the '85 '88 and '92 County Senior Champions.

Donal was most at home when out in the Athletic Grounds or in St Brigids School grounds coaching our underage squads. Indeed he was instrumental in establishing our u10 structure and this is why the club used this age bracket for to perpetuate his memory.

So this Saturday hold the memory of Donal close to you and when enjoying the spills and thrills of youth football remember the young man who held this dear to his heart. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.
