This first round game, on a mild still October afternoon, was level on three occasions in the first half. Silverbridge pushing out to 0.03 to 0.01 after 17mins had most of the early play with that one point for Ógs coming from a Carson free on the left wing.
An injury to Adrian Traynor going up for a high ball in the S/bridge square was ignored letting
'The Bridge' break down field where Eoghan Heaney fouled allowing their half forward to point.
This was joined by another point within a minute and S/bridge were 0.04 to 0.01 up.
Two points from Justy Graham, one effort needing the help of the post, dragged Ógs back
into the game and a great individual point on the right side from Paudie Feeney's left foot
sailed over to level the scores.
Tiernan Donnelly was yellow carded for upending S/bridge's corner back but the resulting free moved quickly down field went narrowly wide. Ógs defended another attack which was again forced wide. This kick-out was won by Ógs Michael Carson passing to Feeney and on to full forward Traynor who gains a free for Graham to convert.
Silverbridge replied with a point after fisting wide an open goal chance. Several knocks on Ógs players stalled the play until the Bridge tapped over another free by their no 10 to go back in front. As half time approached a Carson free on the 40' skims passed the posts and Paul Boylan
blows the short whistle. Na Piarsaigh Óga 0.05 (4wides) Silverbridge 0.06 (7 wides)
Second half commenced with a goal chance going very close as a Silverbridge forward connects with an outstretched leg in the box but Ógs survive again. The resulting kick out was
won by 'Bridge and their midfielder punches over a handy point.
Carson gains the ball in midfield and sends a 'high and hopeful' ball into the box where Adrian Traynor wins a penalty it must be said against the run of play. Taking the penalty himself the
goalie initially saves but Traynor gets the rebound and Ógs go in front again 1.05 to 0.07
A period of scrappy play ended with a Silverbridge free on the 14' line after some back chat
by Ógs players and the game is level again.
Carson was fouled as he won the kick out and as before send a long high ball into the box where it broke to Feeney for a quick point over his shoulder.
Two points in reply by Bridge no 10 and another after Ógs midfield were cleaned out by their full forward put them 2up as A.Traynor fouls and gets a 'Yellow'.
Another passage of play ended when the Bridge cut in from the left corner and their shot, goal bound, was brilliantly saved by Malachy for a 45. This was again cleared when he made a reaction save with his legs. Ógs were hanging on at this stage as S/bridge no 8 scores from 20yds. 1.06 to 0.12
Something had to happen and a free about 30yds out taken by Justy Graham kicked a spark back into the Ógs. They won the kick out and a great ball from the outside of Carson's boot swerved over the bar only for a square ball to be punished. Liam Gilsenan was injured and was replaced by Eoin Duffy as several frees brought Ógs down the far wing for Freeman to kick into the box. Silverbridge backs seemed to lose their nerve with this ploy and Conor Nugent rattled the back of the net.
2.07 to 0.12.
As before S.Bridge went on the attack having no intentions of giving in with a few minutes left.
Their no 10 again kicked wide when a score would have been easier and the next attack Michael Carson executed a great steal to prevent an almost certain goal as Silverbrige no 12 broke free in the box. This was punched clear as the trigger was being pulled but the clearance broke down and allowed Silverbridge to point, drawing the game as Carson ended with a Black card and probably man of the match performance. Final score Na Piarsaigh Óga 2.07 Silverbridge 0.13
